Germany vs Spain semi-final in Durban Wed 7 Jul

With a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paraguay last night, Spain joins Germany who had a exciting 4-0 win over Argentina in the earlier game to produce a Germany vs Spain semi-final for Durban on Wednesday next week.

Both teams and fans were in Durban for the opening games of the World Cup when Germany beat Australia and Spain lost to Switzerland, so the return will be a hard-fought battle.

Germany back for semi-final in Durban

Germany's footballer Podolski has everything to be proud of with Germany's (4) win tonight over Argentina (0) in the World Cup quarter-finals in South Africa.

This brings Germany back to Durban, for the semi-final next week. We had a house-load of proud German fans at our Guesthouse here in Durban for the opening game against Australia and they will be back for some more fun in the sun hopeful of making it to the finals.

Netherlands vs Slovakia Mon 28 Jun

Netherlands and Slovakia have qualified for the Round of 16 game in Durban on Monday 28th June. This is wonderful news as it means we will have the big orange football team fans back in Durban. And I am getting out my bright orange gear to join the fans on the beachfront. Welcome back to Jenny (left) from the United States and now living in the Netherlands with her Dutch husband Edwin (right) who have been travelling the country in support of the Netherlands team and will be joining us at the Guesthouse for some more football mania.

Well done also to Slovakia who have played some excellent games to come through the first round with some top teams, such as world champs Italy and England, being sent home earlier than anyone expected.

Germany beats Australia 4-0

The Germany vs Australia game was awesome and we ended up with 7 Germans and 7 Ozzie supporters in the house. The result of Germany (4) and Australia (0) made for much rivalry and drinking afterwards and the Ozzies insisted the Germans had to do the paying. In the 1st photo above guests Nelson (Perth), Tino (Germany), Les (Perth) and Michael (Sydney) enjoy a drink after the game and a night on the town.

In the next photos Germany supporters gather for some TV news after the game, a rasta man celebrates in the street, a Germany supporter gives and interview and in the last photo above Durban Stadium View Guesthouse guest Tino joins a group of Germany supporters for hischance to be seen on TV aroundthe world as Germany celebrated their win over Australia.

Brazil vs Portugal 25 June

We've got tickets to the Brazil vs Portugal game in Durban.

This means I need to brush up a little on my history, not that I don't know the Portuguese origins in Southern Africa.

The early Portuguese explorers, Bartholomew Diaz, followed by Vasco da Gama were looking for an alternative route to bypass the Turkish blockade of the Silk route that linked Europe and China and passage by sea around Southern Africa was the key.

It was Vasco da Gama who succeeded in going all the way around the South African coastline making Portugal the first European nation to reach the Far East by sea in the late 15th Century.

With this illustrious background, we will be proud to host the Portugal Football team in Durban for their epic clash with Brazil and we are delighted that we managed to get these tickets.
