Mark back for holiday

Mark returns from Stellenbosch for a few days during his winter vac, then jets off to Seattle and Vancouver for his winter/their summer vacation where he will meet up with a friend from South Africa now living in Canada.

Good Friday holidays

It' s a welcome break for the Easter public holidays... and the beachfront in Durban is glorious... hot autumn sun, beautiful sand and yummy cocktails on the Moyo Pier at uShaka.

Sardine run in Durban

July/August is sardine time along the east coast and this year a few shoals of the small fish beached in Durban. I didn't get to see them but Kate-Lynn was down there and saw this shark at uShaka Beach (no pun intended). They usually follow the shoals and bathing on the beaches is temporarily closed lest they mistake a bather for the food they are shovelling down over the sardine run.

Fathers' Day in South Africa

Sun 20th June - it's Fathers' Day in South Africa and what a joy it is to be surrounded by such awesome kids. Thank you African savages for making the day so special. And the weatherman treated all dads and World Cup visitors to another stunning, sunny, 27c day in Durban  for the beach and beachfront as we bid goodbye to our Netherlands and Japenese visitors and welcome the Nigerian and South Korean fans for the next game here on Tuesday.

In the photos with their dad Llewellyn are Lauren, Calvin and Caitlin, and in the pics around uShaka Marine World and South Beach are Kate-Lynn with me, Dave... eating ice cream and buying caps and bands for the World Cup.

In between games

Each day we have a few guests leaving, some victorious and some sad at their team's loss. After the Ozzie supporters left, Peter and Tony in the yellow and gold of the Socceroos in the photos, we went down to the beach ahead of the Switzerland vs Spain game on Wednesday.

In the next photo Brad and Dave's daughter Kate-Lynn soak up the sun at the Moyo Restaurant on the pier out to sea at uShaka Beach whilst we looked at some of the amazing sandcastles built by the local black residents for the tourists.
