It's a Winner - Spain (1) Netherlands (0)

South Africa may have been knocked out in the first round but we were also winners in the World Cup. Congratulations Spain ... our Spanish guest Guido who was with us in Durban for both of the Spain games is so excited... it is so sad to see the end of the festivities, but what a journey. Check out our Spain Durban stories in the run up to the final.

A big thank you to all the fans who stayed with us at the Guesthouse for making the event so exhilarating for us too. Durban will miss the football spirit, but at least we still have our glorious weather... spent the day on the beach today watching the Durban Airshow. Brilliant sunshine and show... please all come back soon.

Germany vs Spain semi-final in Durban Wed 7 Jul

With a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paraguay last night, Spain joins Germany who had a exciting 4-0 win over Argentina in the earlier game to produce a Germany vs Spain semi-final for Durban on Wednesday next week.

Both teams and fans were in Durban for the opening games of the World Cup when Germany beat Australia and Spain lost to Switzerland, so the return will be a hard-fought battle.

Inside the Stadium

This awesome photo inside Durban's World Cup Moses Mabhida Stadium was taken by our guest Guido at the Spain vs Switzerland game. The impressive arch over the Stadium makes a stunning architectural addition to Durban's skyline and a cable car takes one to the viewing deck on top. Guido also captured Manolo who was in town to encourage the Spanish fans (Guido is right in the photo next to Manolo.

Firetruck down Africa

Ronnie and Manu (left and right in the photos) are the 2nd of three groups of travellers we have met at the Guesthouse who travelled from Germany and Switzerland through Africa to Durban in time for the World Cup. Ronnie and Manu bought a genuine Fire Truck and this was their home for the incredible journey. The result 4-0 for Germany and 1-0 Swiss victory against Spain for Marco and Tamara, who also made the journey in a landrover, was sweet.

Switzerland (1) Spain (0)

What a surprise win for the Switzerland team and great excitement for the Swiss guys from Berne, Patrick, Thomas, Boris and Roman - and disappointment for their Spain supporting Swiss friend Chris. In the photos the friends show their support in the bar at the Guesthouse before the game, and here is Chris who found  Manolo just down the road from the Guesthouse on the way to the Stadium. Chris also took some stunning photos of the Durban Stadium and the supporters from Switzerland.

Spain vs Switzerland Wed 16 June

Supporters from Spain and Switzerland will be in Durban for our second FIFA World Cup Match on the 16th June... so listen for shouts of Ole' Ole' in the streets, especially if Spain pulls off a win against Switzerland.

Our guesthouse already has some Swiss supporters booked in so it will be an interesting few days in the build-up to the game. In the photo below is Swiss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio and you can read more about the Swiss line-up for the World Cup on their blog here and about the Spanish football team on their blog here.
